The MIVG was created in 2009 with the aim of promoting a healthy lifestyle among medical students. It is also aimed to promote and foster inter-varsity relations across medical faculties in Malaysia. With this, we hope to instill a sense of camaraderie among the future doctors, thus creating a conducive environment for better healthcare practices in the future and to culture wholesome healthcare practitioners in terms of intellectual and personality.
The MIVG is an annual sports event by AMSA Malaysia involving the Medical Faculties of various universities such as the International Medical University (IMU), National University of Malaysia (UKM), University of Malaya (UM), University Putra Malaysia (UPM), University Sains Malaysia (USM), and International Islamic University Malaysia (UIA). Congratulations to the winner of UTAR MIVG 2014, team IMU! Also, congratulations to all the participating teams! It was a great success and UTAR MIVG 2014 has finally come to an end. Thanks everyone for all the supports, time and efforts! See you again next year, MIVG 2015!

When was it held?
21st September 2014 Where was it held? Projek Perumahan Rakyat Flat, Jalan Pekaka 8/1, Kota Damansara Who was involved? Students from IMU from various courses. Medical students were representatives of AMSA What was provided at the health screening? A string of stations starting from a questionnaire which comprised of their health and lifestyle diseases, measuring their BMI, fat level and waist to hip ratio by the nutrition and dietetics students, measuring blood pressure followed by blood glucose level by the medical students and then services provided by the dental and chiropractic students. Doctors from IMU also were at the scene to provide consulting services where required. Furthermore, a station was allocated to entertain and manage the kids whilst their parents went through the health screening. Why was it held? The public health screening project is held annually in this area. The collaboration between the residents here and IMU both benefits themselves and the university. For the residents, the health screening is free and they can constantly monitor their basic health and seek help where needed. For the students, it is a platform where we can put our skills into practice in a real setting is also place where we can interact with real patients. The collaboration between various courses also allows us to catch a glimpse of what a wholesome medical team is and opportunity to interact with students not only in the same course as ours but also other practices. To look forward to? Amsa will be holding another health screening in November 2014. From this project, we managed to identify some things where can be improved. We also wish to reach out to more participants than the 50 odd in this project. |
