Themed ‘Unseen Danger’, the 2013 AMSA health day was successfully held on the 7th of December 2013 at Sekolah Agama Hidayatul Iman, Sg Jelok Kajang. In line with the upcoming pre-EAMSC conference in Korea, the community starved off many challenges in making this program a success. The committee members and runners involving medical students from UKM, IMU,UTAR and Monash University arrived as early as 8.15 am to start off the day.
In the early morning, the Principal of the school was invited to give a opening speech for the event's opening ceremony. The health campaign started at 8.45 am with the clinical screening booth accepting participants to undergo a series of screening tests which included body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, pulse rate, blood glucose and blood grouping. At the end of the screening, a counseling session was provided to explain their results and clear their doubts. At the same time, the participants were given pamphlets in order to understand more about diseases that people can take primary prevention steps on such as Hypertension, Diabetes and obesity. A booth with games conducted by our members had raised some excitement during this program. The ‘aseptic technique’ booth was a new exposure techniques that can be highlighted for children during the program while their parents were doing clinical screening. There was also games that had raised some fun among children and participants which was "match it correctly" and gifts were given in return for their great participation. As for all, crowd for this program was made by children and their presence and participation cheered up the atmosphere. Crowd slowly tapered as the lunch time was near. After some refreshment and rest, more crowd came in the late afternoon. To further promote of the event, some members managed to go house by house to remind and attract more people to come to this program. Runners and members had also done their best to attract more people to come this program and people could increase their awareness of silent disease such as Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus. We managed to invite Organ Transplant Centre and there was a good numbers of applicants who were interested in signing up. They also provided pamphlets and books on explanation about organ transplant and there was a representative from the centre helping out in explaining the process of signing up for anyone who were interested. In a nutshell, although it was a small scale campaign attracting around 50-100 people, our campaign managed to achieve our objective.

The AMSA committee has recently organised an MOCK OSPE examination for the current Semester 3 students (ME213) to help them prepare for the real thing! From past records through statistics, it was acknowledged that nearly more than 50% of the students per cohort can fail in this deadly examination. Reason of this might be because students do not know how the exam question format is like, how the exam condition is like and how rotation works in the real exam. Therefore, working with Dr.Arun, AMSA IMU committee has successfully organised this event and most students thought it was helpful! Special thanks to the IT faculty and Dr.Arun for helping in organising this event!
As written by an ambassador (Beh Ying Zhi) :The main objective of this event is to improved the understanding of members from AMSA Ambassador ME114 towards the flow of event organizing in IMU, and the structure of palliative care provided by Hospice Malaysia. As this was the first ambassador-based project (for ME114), it has brought everyone together and promoted mutual understanding. Although it was a small project, it plays an important significance among us members, as it increases our confidence in project organization, and strengthen our beliefs that everyone can contribute to the society in different ways.It was a wonderful experience and opportunity for us to have University Malaya's student here at IMU. The main objective of this visit is to develop friendship as well as sharing knowledge.
